Lockdown, Dave, The New Television

Technically the last two episodes were well done, each with its own complete story and a “stay tuned” cliffhanger of the week. Clinically I preferred Dave to Lockdown. Here’s why:

I didn’t have to refer to the internet to understand what happened.

The Whole Truth: Or Simply More Foreshadowing?

At the beginning of The Whole Truth we get the old jerky from the writers with Locke asking Ana-Lucia if she’s “running from the devil?” Could Desmond be rejoining the story soon?

This episode thrusts us into the new triangle that’s formed between Locke, Jack, and Happy Balloon Man. It’s a relationship of confidence games and trust issues, which leaves HBM looking for all the world like he’s one of “them” and if he isn’t then certainly the first person you’d beat the crap out of when something goes wrong. And if you’ve heard of slash fiction, then this triangle takes on so much more meaning.

We now know that Sun got her english lessons from the rich boy she dated before meeting Jin. The question of wether he is the father of her child remains unanswered, though implied. More importantly this flashback revisits the question: Was the US Marshall right?

Kate reluctantly admits she once took a pregnancy test. Who was the suspected father in that case? Was it her childhood sweetheart, or her abusive step-dad? Expect another Kate flashback before the end of season two.

The hatch goes coo-coo bananas tonight. Hopefully we’ll have some Locke questions answered.

Re-Lost: Watching Season One Again

This happens from time to time. Someone I know hasn’t seen a handful of episodes from season one of Lost and we head over to their house for a DVD marathon.

Strangely enough we ended up watching episodes that were rerun this past month. The Moth, House of the Rising Sun, and Confidence Man were the episodes in this weekend’s two hour marathon.

Ed, a Locke fan, wonders when Charile will be killed off. Eugenius, a Hurley look-alike in hair and disposition, thinks Jack is a total wuss to which I say hasn’t he heard of the “You’re lucky my woman is here” excuse for not getting into a fight.

My favorite observation of the night came from Ed. Throughout the series there’s been a running gag with Sawyer and Sayid:

Whomever Sawyer threatens to kill usually ends up beating the crap out of him. Jack always gets the best of him. Ana-Lucia’s gotten his goat. And Zeke damn near shot Sawyer’s ear off.

Everyone Sayid has tortured never gave up useful information. His commanding officer revealed that a missing US chopper pilot was dead. That was his only “success” but even that couldn’t save the life of the person who was lost. His interrogation of Sawyer revealed that Sawyer didn’t have Shannon’s inhalers. And the balloon pilot never gave up the ghost.

Great stuff.
