Libby’s Backstory Will Shrink Hurley’s Interest

“Year of med school before I dropped out. I’m a clinical psychologist.”

In “The Other 48 Days” Libby tells Ana-Lucia that she’s not a doctor. No, of course not, because then it’d be one more person on the island who probably met Jack “in another life,” as Desmond might say.

I’ve been waiting for the pay off since Libby uttered those words, and recently Lost’s co-creator Damon Lindelof confirmed as much in an interview with Zap2It.com:

“[Libby's] a little bit of a stealth surprise that we have cooking on the island… That is going to be very cool, when the longer game reveals itself.”

There are actually two things I’ve suspected we’ll see regarding Libby.

“So what do you think is the story with that Libby chick…”

You can’t blame Hurley from trying. He’s a nice guy who’s genuinely likable. If you had a friend like Hugo you’d be in good shape, unless you’re the type who shuns those who’ve been institutionalized. Hugo “Hurley” Reyes either spent time inside as a patent or an orderly. As we’ve seen, odds are on the former being the case.

Sawyer, being the nobel savage he is, will goad Hurley into pursuing his interest in Libby. This is when we’ll find out how their pasts have crossed, knowingly or not. That’s the first thing I’ve been waiting on.

The second payoff I’ve suspected comes from a very brief scene in The Swan where Jack examines Desmond’s personal items. One is a photograph of Desmond and another woman: Libby. Am I wrong?

Just another day for Hugo and Libby on Craphole Island.

  1. Charlie’s Problem Is Locke’d Down » ABC’s Lost TV Series: Craphole Island Says:

[...] Structurally Fire + Water resembles The 23rd Psalm in how it begins with the child Charlie, and shows us the worst part of his brother’s drug addiction. There are very minor plot developments involving Hurley and Libby’s relationship. (When that connection is revealed it’ll be a jackpot winner, I’m sure of it.) [...]
